here i go again

Post by minkyhead »

well i finally got around to the 660 tenere today
ive always liked it and have sat on a few ..so on so on
blagged a test ride to day and warned the guy iwas err going to test it
he was fine
a good test through wigan in heavy traffic peice of piss the height comfort nippy perfect low fueling ...doen the m58 ..the local bypass
greasy bumpy b roads and a light trail

i was impressed .. far better on the motorway than i expected sat at a certain speed  fine ..a bigger screen and i could thrum along no problem

the seat seemed ok but me trusty airhawk may be tied on for longer rides
and then taken off when i need to move me fat ass around to balence

b roads greasy ect 21in front wheel and phsudo trail tyres ..no problem
enjoyed it ..no mindboggling power but sprightly up to 80 and feels like it will stay their all day without stress

down i little local trail no thing difficult and a little sortie in to the ajoining feild
....it felt like a dirt bike very easy
spin it up a little ..why not
bowl along at thirty forty mph or so crap tyres and pretty rough in places ...no problem
..i can do a bit on this i was never scarad of it
enough power softly delivered never intimidating feeling grip ..or no grip
dab a foot down back under control ..do it again ...lovely
i knew what was happening as if it wrote me a letter in advance

half decent tyres handlebar raisers will be all i need to do a bit
ive made a note to meself to try and keep within me limits and accept the odd slow speed tumble ... i have a poor track record of hurting meself and dont want any more
its a hard bug to kill this of roading ..... hey ho

im sold i loved it
i was grinning like a cheshire cat when i got back
..i couldnt strike the right deal with me cb 1300 but im certain one will sit in the garage before spring

last but not least its very cheap [in comparason ]

there you go i feel better for sharing that with you

whoo hoo

Pluses...
60mpg, cheap tyres, 6000 mile service intervals, 240 mile tank range.

Minuses...
Rectifiers tend to fail regularly. Condensation in everything, behind instruments too. Italian build quality.

(after mine broke down three times in three months...I sold it. Those that don't have lemons, love them!)

Many have done major trips, and are highly regarded.

My opinion, for what it's worth mate, ( worked with a Yamaha dealer for a while) is they're a cracking looking bike, with Yamaha's reliability should be a good bike. I would have liked one for a winter hack but they're a bit too expensive yet but I'd not ne scared to buy one!
I've an old Beemer for a hack and it's turning out to be a hoot!
Best of luck mate, should be a great bike!
Honda, the power of dreams.

howmany gears ... what a good question ??

i thought they only did five speed so i had thet mindset when i rode it
it was /is a 09

i have freind on the varadero forum who runs one off road a lot and trust him
thus the interest
i can tell you that the gear spacong was great for a single it wasnt easy to get between gears ..but i /we anyone can do that
it felt unstrssed at 80 and sustainable

mmm must find out how many gears it has ....

but its a good sign it you don notice methinks ..it was never reving its tits off 80 was around 5k and it was happy
revving above 5k never gave any more real surge but if you wanted to hold a gear at say 7 ..no problem

i will always say what i think ..i really liked it
enoghh to chug along any road respectable ...soft and prdictavle in the sloppy stuff ..no big bang at the top which for me [self harmer ] was great

hi craig yes

the 2010 model continues to be five speed

given the modest hp the gears were spaced nicely

i wasnt constantly trying to hook up a gear that didnt exist

i think the gearing with a lineir motor made it really soft to ride

i found this a blessing off road .. ive ridden 525s and beta450s and such
and they are too much for me they tire me out id be better and get further on a xr250 or a drz
so the tenere delivery helped me a lot im quite tall 6.1 so the height wasnt a big issue
for mere mortals or new offroad adventurures its really nice
for real good guys and adreniline junkies it would be in bike trader quick time

the on road performance is fine for me ..im a busa blackbird blade renagade
outrifgt speed is not what i wanted
..ive bought it for a different type of riding altogeher soft suits me now
varadero tenere
i still however retain a pulse

got twated for three points on the mighty varadero last month dam

give me a month and ill take the rose tinted off and ill post a update

the forum is lively contentious at times but its also enthusiastic
rubs off lovely ..
get on auto trader blag atest ride
see if you concur dr spock
i can understand why some lads find it a little to dull
me its seems perfect for what i want to do

i dont play golf but if you got t a handicap of say 20
thats were me off roading peaked now im playing off say 28
so insted of trying to hit harder im just going to try and play shorter easier corses and enjoy the game

ill let you know how i get on

register on here and read the reviews very interesting ..multi bike owners comparing expeiriances ..some surprising comparasons too by expensive competition owners defaulting
...overall very highly rated
..which im being honest
helped me commit

ride safe steve

What's with all these dealers on BikeTrader advertising 6gears then? Do you think I can knock them down a grand when I tell them the 6th gear isn't working?
