I've got a 650L now...
I had a 650R a few years back. As a supermoto AND Enduro. It's a hell of a bike but can be a bitch to start and.. It's powerful too and gobbles up the juice.
For Overlanding, I think the 650L is a better option but it also needs work to get it ready for a proper trip ...

Seeing as no one else has jumped in I thought I'd mention the other often mentioned limitation is the 650r us the Ali rear subframe that can't take much weight if you're loaded up and heading for the tough stuff. Drz 400 if you want off road or xt 660 for an easier ride? Or get a ktm640 adv for the ...

Thanks guys the kick start doesn't bother me the drz I don't fancy just an electric start although on certain models I believe you can fit a kick start, so it looks like im back to the xr 400 I didn't realise john you had an xr you haven't got your x challenge anymore then?.

Ive owned both and ridden 2 up on both. The 1200 is much better 2 up, more comfy, more power, you can hardly feel there is someone on the back. Thats not to say the 800 couldnt do it, it could...just not as well. It depends on what you want to do with it. If you go off road at all then id take a ...
