Im after a mid Wales campsite suitable for a small group of campers, a couple of motorhomes as well.
Close to a pub is essential, and obviously biker friendly.
Anyone know of any. Flexible on location in mid Wales.

Stayed many times and the campsite is out the back of the pub. You need to book if you want a evening meal and camping is only £7 . Biker friendly plus great roads around you

Fforest fields
Used this site a lot. Very handy for the trails.
The pub at Hundred House is a short walk away (and naturally a longer stagger back  )

Second. It's not the prettiest campsite but certainly ticks all your boxes; motorhome / transits can park in the field, 5 min walk to town & so used to bikes no-one will bat an eyelid if you choose to ride to the toilet block (lazy C90 Welsh owners group I'm looking at you)boboneleg wrote:Wyeside at Rhayader.
It's about as close as you can get to the trails & any road sections back to camp have you smiling (thumbs)
With enough profanity, you can accomplish anything
Re: Mid Wales Campsite.....
Wyeside is (was) great, especially with Bob's big menu at the Eagles Inn.
BUT: the previous lease holder retired 3yrs ago (?) and Powys CC (the owners) ran it themselves, then under austerity measures put it up for sale (along with alot of other property) and part of the package was maintaining the staff they had put in. So no private buyer would touch it to run it as a family business.
Last year the Camping & Caravaning Club bought it. Current staff happy as its continuation of employment for them.
A group of us CCM owners has been using it for 7yrs for a weeks meet every year (plus i'd been using it since 2005 and never had any complaints).
At the meet last July (under new C&CC ownership) the staff were at pains to make us unwelcome. Measuring distance between tents and insisting they were moved (C&CC rules). Also they didn't want vans that hadn't been converted to motorhomes (no windows or permanent beds were a no-no).
Finally they informed us C&CC were intending investing in the site and limiting the camping drastically, putting in hardstandings (so no tents) to discourage anyone not in a motorhome or without a caravan. They said revenue was greater from motorhomes/caravans.
Last Feb the planning application went in for 42 hardstandings on the camping field, a circular tarmac access road (like the other 65% of the site) and widening of the current access to accomodate larger motorhomes/caravans.
So enjoy it while you can
This year we are moving to Bala. Nice site and pub I tried a few weeks ago (also Eagles Inn).

Two of us on trail bikes camped at wyeside last weekend and they were fine with us (new couple managing it I think).
Campsite at devils bridge is also bike friendly; good shower and toilet block as well.

Re: Mid Wales Campsite.....
Stopped there last weekend. Everything was great until a couple of 4x4 campers decided to blast music out for an hour and a half at 3am. Nothing seemed to have been said.
When we arrived we got a lecture on keeping things quiet . We may have just been unlucky having a couple of knobheads there that night. Would probably still give it another go. Rhayader was just a five minute walk and was a good place to have a meal and a drink. It is in a great setting. The 6m between tents didn't bother us (It's better than being jammed in tightly together.)
