Presumably if you have had a drink and then used your tester to make sure you are ok to ride away, you will then be breaking the law....

Is this just a nice little earner for French companies that make the testers as everyone will need to buy two?

nice idea, but;
1. if youre disposed to drink-drive you will anyway, whether you know youve had too much to drink or not. its the same as tax/insurance/mot etc.
2. you have to carry it with you, do you have to use it and what is in place to make you use it?
3. how accurate is it? the things the police use dont cost €1.50
4. you have a night out, blow in your balloon and find youre over the limit, so walk home. youve got to drive in the morning but what do you use then when most drink-drivers get caught "the morning after"? soon you have to carry two, then three etc.
if youve used yours but get stopped driving down the shop to get a new one and get fined, how pissed off would you be?
youve used your bag and found youre over the limit, but your mate had less to drink than you and thinks hes ok to drive, but what does he blow in?

okay, just stories, but after a while people just wont bother. especially french people, but by then we will have it for a law too and we'll be fined £110 not €11.

ive got no problem having to get one if they are going to be so cheap, but i can see these things just sat in the bag of "assorted unused shite" we all have in our cars, with an empty foil of paracetemols, a bit of paper with a phone no you have no clue about, and a half melted boiled sweet stuck to it

I agree Dave....
total money earner and you'll need a few if you feel like testing yourself..the French will have two in their vehicles but never use them..

dont forget its election year in France and old sakorsky is fitting a loosing battle so looking for any votes he can...I've yet to be stopped in France for a seqarch of anything even when. Talking to the friendly chips riders..

just something else we need for euro travel...which was the point of the informative post

How long will it take for someone to get done for drink driving and say their breath tester said they were all right to drive, big court case and it all gets dropped or the police will have to use the same kit, complete waste of time, but I suspect someone to do with Sarkosy will make a nice lot of money from it.

Who are going to sell them? .... Chemists!

Which Country has more pharmacy's in proportion to population than any other ..... Oui France!

Seems every high street in France has a green cross every 3rd shop.

absolutely, cheers russ, i wasnt having a go! :) (and no bile in this thread please, had enough of that the last couple of weeks B) )
as i said, while its cheap its not a problem, just another thing we have to carry abroad and rarely use. as someone said, the ferrys will have all that, along with the £3 vest and bulb/fuse 1st aid kits etc. the supermarkets usually sell cheap stuff over there.
re; john law, ive only ever interacted with cops in europe twice, in france and belgium, both bike cops and both types supposed to be complete nazis and both top blokes. one just wanted a race on his brand new K1200 and the other escorted us through ghent in the rush hour on the most beat up R100RT i ever saw in my life.

:cheer: Yeh..but you live in the woods

most people with common sence would not neeed to do there own test as they would know how much they have had and not drive or ride....you always get someone who has one to many and always will..human nature..

loads of info around phil...better get the donkey and cart out for the expat get togethers...but then someone always drives the others home ...safely
