I want to get really, really dirty . . .

Post by Steve T »

Where to start?

Oh yes, the phone call last night . . . . .

Ring ring . . . . . . Ring ring . . . . .

Me - “Hello”

Caller (in a husky, 50 fags a day type voice) – “I want to get dirty”

Me – “Sorry????”

Caller (still in a husky, 50 fags a day type voice) – “I want to get really, really dirty”

Well, all I can say is thank goodness for caller ID.

And so we went out and got dirty . . .

and wet . . . .

And then into some more hills . . . with some weather closing in . . . . that's snow coming in, that is . . .

Nice ABR sticker type shot :) ;)

Location wise, the clue is in the picture title ;)

Weather - a bit of wet & dry never hurt anyone

That looks like a cracking day out Steve. Those Scottish hills are very much like places I know in the Brecon Beacons.

Indeed it was Alun.
And if I'm ever down your way on my bike in the future, you can make a few suggestions about which ones are "good to go" ;)

Treadtrader, the clue I was on about is the actual picture title - it's the northing & westing for each location. Not sure if the file title can be viewed in this format, but on some other sites you can follow the file link and view it's title.

Type these into a mapping prog and see where it takes you:-

57.807N, 4.4467W

57.782N, 4.310W

Did you have to get landowners' permission to ride those tracks? I have been told that there is no equivalent of the English 'green lane' in Scotland. All the Forestry Commission tracks round here (Borders) are closed to 'unauthorised motor vehicles', and I'm not sure about using farm roads.

Any advice on getting off road in Scotland warmly welcomed.

What can I say - we just rolled from the hard top onto the track. No gates, just a cattle grid.
Personally I've never bothered to ask if there's no one around. I ride sensibly, never ripping up trails, avoiding very wet bits so's not to damage the track when ever possible.

Just my ramblings (excuse the pun ;) )

Steve,

Thanks for your ramblings -- I'll give it a go round here and see how it goes.

Cheers,

Paul
