Many of you will be aware of the situation regarding Chapel Gate lane in the Derbyshire Peaks. An experimental Traffic Regulation Order will, if not opposed, be seen by those who oppose us as a way to drive us from the National Parks for ever.
This week and up to 29 February, is the last chance for people to object to the Chapel Gate Experimental TRO. The more objections there are the more impact we can have, hence as many members as possible of PDVUG and its associated clubs should be encouraged to object. Please ensure this receives the widest circulation to vehicle users beyond PDVUG.
The minimum that is needed is for an individual to send the following statement by email to [email protected] :
I wish to object to the provisions of the Experimental Traffic Order, made on 10 August 2011 prohibiting mechanically propelled vehicles on the Chapel Gate Byway, being established on a permanent basis.
Any reasons can be added such as: My objection is based on the loss of amenity to me and other vehicle users by not being able to use the Byway for recreational purposes.
Let's have more objections that all the supporting comments that Friends of the Peak District, GLEAM, Rocking the BOAT , etc will be sending in.
Please remember that Mike Rhodes, who many of you will have seen on the Tales From the National Parks documentary is a fair-minded person. Keep your communications to him polite and respectful, and let the beardie-weirdies on the 'other' side be the ones to upset him by being obnoxious – TFNP contained one or two clips of them doing just that!

Re: Green laning in the Peaks: one week to Act!
I've done this, only took a few minutes
Here's a copy of my email which was acknowledged in case its helps anyone.
Dear Mike,
As a responsible, law abiding motorcyclist, I strongly object to the ETRO in place on the Chapel Gate Byway.
I am a fully paid up member of the TRF (Trail Riders Fellowship) adhering to a strict code of conduct to ensure both the survival of legal byways that I am entitled to access as part of the Road Excise Duty I contribute to each year, and the safety of other users who share the use of these rights of passage.
Although the byway in question is over 150 miles from where I live, I do have aspirations to visit The Peak District for a holiday, which will encompass several days of exploring the local byways.
If this ETRO is enforced, the knock on effects to the wider local rural economy will be detrimental.
I must profess to finding the whole issue quite hypocritical, especially following the Kinder Scout mass trespass in 1932 to ensure that the countryside was made more accessible to all. It would appear that the protesters movement behind the 1932 action are today trying to force the authorities hands to marginalise access to other minority groups.
I would like to take this opportunity to applaud you and your colleagues for their professional level headed approach to this matter as reported in the recent Countryfile Programme, particularly in view of the gross NIMBYism I saw demonstrated.
Kind regards

Good letter Gavin. I also mentioned the hypocisy of kinder scout in mine.
I just find it so pathetically sad that one user group is actually trying to ban another from the use of what is essential the country's (and our) heritage. Terribly sad.

I got what looked to be an automatic acknowledgement to my email in a few minutes - do you mean if you sent a letter or is it best to ask for a separate acknowledgement as well?
