Problem with ammo boxes is weight.
I have a couple, allthough different sizes.
I'll be happy to measure and photo them, maybe someone has a match for one of them.

heavy and never the perfect size or shape. if your on a budget (who isnt these days?) look at other army's catering cases, they seem to be a good compromise.
i suppose a .50cal box with the bottom extended might be ok, or an old german 7.92 box but they are thin. by the time you sort them out you might wish you had just bought some or had some made to your specs? all it takes is some bent ally and someone who can weld it, or even angles and rivets

Ive had a bit of a rethink and decided i will make some from 2mm aluminium sheet and some 2mm angle revited together with sealer, i found a thread on Horizons Unlimited of some panniers made this way and to be fair they look pretty damn good. Thanks for your advice just need a rack now, i have the original Suzuki panniers and rack but they arent overly robust.
