I’d say it’s 100€ per day for me. I don’t use toll roads abroad. I travel with a mate, we never camp but we share a hotel room (single beds) we like a beer and an evening meal so the budget can creep up towards 150€ if we go a bit daft.

That you can travel on £ 40-45, pe day. If camping.
Excluding fuel

Keep going
:)
What do you mean I need more money for fuel? 😉
(Best mpg:168)
Question on the first post was costs excluding fuel. Thats why I did not include that.

You don't need more money for fuel with your bike.
Some coins are probably enough.
You can use your money on other things :D

I have hard with mpg. And US or Imp gallons. I need my calculator. 168 mpg => 0,18 liters per 100 km? that is really good !!
My Suzuki travel bike (650 DL XT) takes 0,45 liters per 100 km. The Himalayan around 0,33 liters per 100 km
A 300 km day on the Suzuki => 13,5 liters of fuel => 23 Euro. Portugal prices. 1.7 Euro per liter)

(Of the topic cost in Europe : Ecuador had the cheapest fuel on my SA trip. Himalayan can use the regular 84 octan. An it makes 30 km on one liter, That fuel costs 2.4 USD per US gallon)

I once thought about travelling around France and only moving on when I had made enough change from playing a penny whistle….
🤪

I think my fuel was working out at about 4p a mile, £4= 100 miles

You were one of the lucky ones that lived to tell the tale…
Maybe I should have changed it to: ‘give me money or I’ll play’ 😂

There’s too many variables in Europe, with the countries and riders.

Camping is cheap in France, food and drink is average

Food and drink is cheap in Spain, camping is expensive (compared to France)

Italy - food and drink is like France, camping like Spain but you pay for everything, even a swim in a lake.

The Balkans - inland is cheap for everything, along the coast is Italian prices. A Dutch owned campsite will cost more than a half decent hotel.

Scandinavia is expensive but… like everywhere, if you know how to play the game it’s not so bad eg many hotels include a buffet breakfast and an afternoon tea, which is more like a small meal. The locals will load up lunch boxes with food from breakfast and eat enough of the tea to last the evening.

And it goes on…….. I was introduced to a good policy a few years ago by a friend and fellow Moto holidayer - he doesn’t care how much things cost on holiday (within reason, he’s not rich) if he wants to do it he will. Life can be hard when you’re working and scraping aside a couple of extra grand during the year won’t make a hell of a lot of difference - but having the holiday you want and getting maximum enjoyment will give you memories for life and make a huge difference.

There are many good things to be said about staying in hotels, guesthouses or Airbnb's. Also zimmer frei in Germany. Usually comfortable and warm beds, with showers and/or bathtubs. Sometimes ready breakfast, including coffee. No packing up in the morning. No getting wet when it rains. Often locked garageboxes for the bike.
Camping is, ehh,, cheaper? Sometimes. Okay, usually it's cheaper.
The whole travel budget does depend on your level of luxury.
Champagne taste on beer budget.

Tent

Post by ErikGustav2 »

I love my tent.
I put it up in a nice camping place.
No need to carry bags up to a hotel room
No worry about safe parking. I sleep with the bike beside.
Coffee/breakfast ? Just open the pannier.
No need to look fora restaurant.

Same tent, madras, sleeping bag every night. Feel comfortable.

Easy to spot other bikers. Just walk over to chat about routes, bikes ...
Often far from roads: traffic noise.
Quiet
Fresh air.

I do not camp for saving money. I camp because I like it and I am used to it.
I also sleep better in my tent than in a noisy hotel.

That is me. Others like hotels, Fine for me.

Do you get this view from a hotel room in a city ?
