Just did a couple of days through Wales doing the ACT, 20mph is a boring, monotonous grind on a bike. There's no gear it's natural in.
Was a relief to see a 30 mph!!!
The irony was that there were lots of wide, clear 20 mph roads with great visibility for ages, yet the minute you're out of them you're in a NSL lane that is 6 feet wide, hedges 6 feet tall, 6 feet of visibility yet an alleged limit of 60! Oh how we chuckled....
And before anyone says "think of how much safer the children playing on the street are" - the last time I saw children playing on the street was in "Call the Midwife"......

Limits like this, coupled with speed cameras, is why I've become such a huge fan of cruise controls. I think they should be on all bikes.
Champagne taste on beer budget.
Re: 20 MPH default speed limit in Wales
Greetings folks,
I have never ridden a bike with cruise control but I am big fan in the car. I often use the speed limiter when I am somewhere I do not normally travel, coupled with Waze sat-nav which gives me heads up for problems and speed cameras.
Many car cruise controls can be used at 20mph. My favourite is adaptive cruise control which is brilliant on motorways. When I worked for a Jaguar dealer I was often asked "what toys" would I have and I always said Adaptive Cruise Control and reversing camera.

Hugh.

Usually it works down to 30 km/h. Some might go lower. Which is about 19 mph. Even if it was 21 mph it should save you from getting huge fines.
In my car 50 km/h feels like walking speed.

Re: 20 MPH default speed limit in Wales
My last 2 rides, I noticed there seems to be like Millions of speed signs .. in maybe like half a mile.. they gone mad. all over Wales. Especially along built up areas.
30, 20, 30, 50, 40 30, 20 .. then 20? .. so I missed the 30?
70 on the motorway was like .. a fukkin relief.
Overkill ??? .. they now controlling ever minute road section .. micromanaging your speed thoughts over say 100 yards.. x .. 20 times.
The other thing I notice, is long moving lines of small cars doing 40 in a 50 zone.
World's gone mad.
I think 'they' are giving out nightly subliminal silent messages through our tellys and mobile phones to control us .. to become driving zombies.
Sunday drivers Rule. Lol

Most of (the above) riding was through deserted welsh villages. Not a soul about.
An Intelligent signage system would be better received. IE, an AI responsive detectors of things moving and about?
Of course, only happen if there is profit in it.

We think we saw the correct motorcycles for Wales today,
Cyclemaster and BSA winged wheel powered bicycles, are unlikely to exceed the speed limit.
They had come to our meeting today doing about 15 miles, mixing with another bike of the same era - Vincent Black Shadow !
and more modern Triumphs, Hondas etc

Re: 20 MPH default speed limit in Wales
Perhaps an unintended consequence of the 20mph speed limits will be an increase in noise levels...as a rider hunts up and down the gearbox for a suitable gear?
