As for grips ..I've found the Ram quick grip faultless both on bike and in car on some very rocky trails....
If you want wireless charging that's another story...as most brick androids rugged phones are useless...get what works for you .

Thanks Tramp, thats the one I thought came out tops when looking last night, not interested in wireless charging, I can charge via usb when it's dry and when it's raining I don't do rides long enough to eat the battery anyway so not a factor
Its a trick............get an Axe

Re: Smart Phone for GPS?
This is what I have done.
I used an old Android tablet, to get a larger screen.
I used super glue to mount a "ball mount" on the back side.
Then used standard ball mount pieces. That fits to the handle bar or on the mirror.
One of several items tested
https://adventurebikerider.com/forum/do ... ?id=105422
It can run any Android app.
Google Maps with downloaded maps
OSMAND with OSM maps
or.......
Not water proof.
For water proof I use a Shad case and a cheap old phone inside.

Not my regular phone. That is in my pocket...
But that is my way.
There are probably better ways.
The water proof case is not good in sun. Hard to see anything.....

Re: Smart Phone for GPS?
Every time I go out with someone leading from their Android phone we have little "faff" breaks where we wait for it to connect, the orientation keeps changing, power is dodgy or a dozen other reasons.
I use my normal Samsung phone on a RAM Mount for road navigation - as you say, Google Maps, Waze etc are much better for road navigation.
For Green Lanes I stick to my Montana with OS Maps on it - I just display the route or track as a nice line & follow it - works very well (for me) - plus, then my comms phone is on my person & not the bike.
