Post by Jak* »

Hi, I am trying to get cover for me and a motorcycle to travel through Albania and Montenegro. Can anyone recommend a company? Thanks

I’ve used these quite often for non-Eu trips:

Some banks give you insurance.

Barclays gives me three months free bike insurance in Europe each year, so check your bank for cover.

Same here, infact they insisted on a "green card" and confiscated our passports until we purchased it at the border.

Didn't realise these countries are not eu, but if going to Greece could go around through Romania and Bulgaria?, but these are not shengen, so not sure how this affects things. Going that route has the added bonus of encountering stray Russian fireworks too. Nice.

Is this why some riders cross by ferry from Italy to Greece?

Hi
We’ve traveled down to Greece on the bike every year since 2009, generally going from Eurotunnel at Coquelles to Ancona in Italy, then Anek Superfast ferry to Igoumenitsa.

We did a 5 week trip around Europe in 2010 where we came up through Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia (uninsured), Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, France, and home. We included Montenegro to stay with friends there, otherwise we’d have avoided Croatia and Bosnia entirely.

The TomTom warned us that their maps were incomplete for Montenegro/Serbia/Croatia, but they’re probably better now.

The uninsured Bosnia bit was a tiny strip that dissects the coast road through Croatia, of which I was unaware  but Montenegro was covered by my Carol Nash insurance at that time.

You can buy both at the border crossings (20EUR or so for 14 days).

The certificates look very impressive, but I doubt that the cover they provide would be!

Albania should now be EU covered by companies like CN, Bulgaria certainly is.
