well, didn't get to france last year `21, or scandinavia this last year `22, mostly due to bad air remnants, lol, and being good and sacrificing to my daughter's garden. (still loads to do)

can't be aced with ins and outs of prolonged travel, as old bones get tired quicker.
.. just a direct route there ..

Thinking Greece (maybe probably atm anyway lol)
Thinking direct motorway there, to Athens, (or nearest side roads) .. via bonn budapest belgrade etc
.. (just get there first then) ..

then a meander home, at leisure. ?? ((using coast roads and small roads)

historical Rome, Nice, Alps, swissland, austria, then motorway back?

cheap and cheerful, spending as little as possible, .. rough camp, camp site, hypermarket junk food etc

Given the lessons of the last 2 years I would say time and freedom to travel are the most valuable resources so why rush/straightline anything? If you have nothing to get back for then maximise your 90 days, the garden will still be there but there's no guarantee you will ;) .

I know, Tony, that time is short .. perhaps that's why I should get there pretty quick lol, .. then having finally got to see the parthenon, slowly make way back home?

Gary,
Having gone through Greece a few times to get to Turkey, I’d suggest that you look at the Italy-Greece ferry as an option ; it’s a great crossing and you get to go over the Alps ( from France) and Dolomites to get there…it’s a great ride!

I’ve also done it via the Balkans and via Hungary-Romania-Bulgaria if you need any more information

I will look at the Ferry.
Perhaps motorway is too quick, to get there???

That’s correct…..last time was Turkey via Russia and Georgia but sadly that’s no longer an option!

I remember thinking how brave you were, at the time ..
Would you say going through the heartlands of Germany, Serbia etc is boring compared with over the alps and coasts?

.. and is the italian adriatic coast better than the croatian coast?

Croatian Adriatic coast is one single road , so get’s very busy in parts
and crazy, suicidal driving . I thought Bosnia was stunning, so is Serbia but a lot of anti-NATO sentiment still there ( even today probably). Had a great time riding through Slovenia-Croatia-Montenegro-Albania-FYROM-Greece , having said that, I’ll use the Ferry to Greece next time.

Thanks, Paul .. Will look at the map again.
Amendments are getting tighter shorter routes lol. To be practical and economic I may miss out Italy and go Austria, dolomites, Venice, look at the countries you mentioned then Athens.. and back?

Leaves out ferry costs and do Shoestring lol. more direct.

I did Bulgaria via Greece by crossing from Ancona to Igoumenitsa , and then up to Thessaloniki. That bit of Greece is best avoided IMHO !--glad to get into Bulgaria.
