Re: South American tour
These last few photos look hilly, green and very inviting.

Re: South American tour
The green area started in a small village called Los Tambillos.
I started that day in Villa Union. And this was after one hour ?
That was at the foot of the mountain area.
From there it was climbing to 2 400 m

RN 40 final
From Cayafate I headed north towards Cachi.
Passing Quebra de las Flechas and some other beautiful areas.
Than I decided to ride towards Salta. I hoped to get some tyres there.
I got reports from MC riders coming from the north about road conditions farther north.
And also from a RE dealer in Mendoza. That the conditions are very, very bad. With a lot of big rocks on the road
It is all subjective. But in a group of 3 riders, all of them had fallen due to rocks on the road. 3-5 times each.
Alone in this part of the world, I do not want to take the risks of riding the last part of RN 40.
You can call me chicken. I do not mind. But a fall resulting in an injury would end the trip. And create a lot of problems.
And I am alone, so no help of from the rest of a group.
There is a lot left in Bolivia and Peru that will be enough of challenges.
(I hope that the bad situation in Peru is over, when I get there. Or that is does not affect the remote areas. I plan to ride the mountains of the way north)

Re: South American tour
There’s no way anyone can call you a chicken. You have taken some good advice and made a good plan.
Sometimes the hardest decision is doing the sensible thing.
Hats off to you!

To Salta
The trip continued to towards La Quiaca at the border to Bolivia via Salta.
This part was also nice. So no regrets for taking this route.
But is was a too long day. Salta was large. With traffic. But I started to search for tyres.
And started to search for a hostel or something too late.
But finally, when I was tired and sitting on the bike checking GPS and Google maps for next alternative to test, I got help from a friendly biker.
He stopped and signed if everything was OK.
I told him that I needed a place to sleep, that could provide secure parking.
He said "follow me" and took of. A race in the Salta traffic.
That ended at the perfect place.
They had parking and a nice room.
The guy in the reception asked if I wanted to see the room. And if the price was OK.
At 9 PM. Tired and dark outside, I take anything.
For two nights. To use next day to search for tyres.

To Humahuaca
I found a set of tyres in one place. And I went to another to get them mounted.
Tyres are not cheep in Argentina. But I got a set that fitted of OK type.
Happy for that.
The day after, I made a short ride.
Half the way to La Quiaca.
To a town called Humahuaca.
Where I found a very nice, Mexican style hotel.
That I enjoyed that night.
You can see from the pictures, that this route was not a bad choice.
And that the hotel was beautiful

Re: South American tour
Thanks for the continued updates .
I find that the places you visit are only part of the journey but those chance meetings with other travellers or helpful locals are the true rewards of travel .

Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

Re: South American tour
I would like to interact much more with the local population.
Especially the indigenous people.
Sitting in a cafe and let them talk about their life and what they think.
Or in other situations.
But my Spanish is not enough for deep conversations like that.
I have to stay with some short conversations.
Like with travelers. About the trip, routes, road conditions...
With owner of camp sites and hotels about low and high season. How things are going...
Asking for all kinds of information.
And of course, many want to know where I am from and to know about by trip.
