Rural France

I've ridden through much of France over the years, but always, it seems, quite fast on main roads and autoroutes, generally in a hurry to get to places such as the Alps, Pyrenees or Med (which provided what I was after such as twisties and relaxation).
This time it's rather different and I'm liking it - the idea is taking it slow on secondary and tertiary routes. We're currently in the rustic, sleepy central south area, Averyon, having trundled across from Ile de Ré on the Atlantic coast, latterly following the Dordogne and Lot rivers, where I've re-acquainted myself with using purely the brakes to steer. So far accommodation has been got both on spec and using booking.com shortly before we need a place to stay. Just hope we also get to camp, it'd be a shame to hump the tent around France (and then on to Italy), unused.

I’m down in France at the moment too but this time in the car with my wife…. I think I owed it to her as I kept whizzing around on my own and telling her how good it was when I got home.

We’ve been living here in the Dordogne for 30 years now. Went back to England 2 weeks ago (first time since 2015) and now really appreciate where I live.

I can see why. But one thing has struck us - there are loads of mainly older houses (and commercial premises too) for sale. And it's so inexpensive compared to back in UK. The one place, however, where it was quite pricey was back west in Ile de Ré.

I was staying in one of the hotels in the village when in the morning there was an almighty roaring noise. Opened up the window to have a couple of balloons wandering by. A gorgeous area

Ile de Re is very popular with second home buyers from Paris - Often Parisians rent in Paris and only own their holiday home and Covid has pushed prices up for rural property.

Just returned from a short trip to France,
Ferry there tunnel back no holdups,
Love the rural roads you have them all to yourself pretty much,
