Did not know the "newbie" thread existed so posted something on the Ewan and Charlie thread. Copied a bit from it as it says a bit about us.
We had hoped to capitalise from the E & W effect, hoping to pick up a fully kitted out 1200GS bought by the proverbial rich city financier at a large discount after he had ridden down the road for a few miles and frightened himself.
We nearly did. Agreed a deal for one 6 month old with every possible extra with 950 miles on the clock at a 4 grand saving.
Booked flights and flew from Crete only to be told they had sold it four hours ago. Salesman had left under a cloud and kept no record of deals or agreements he had made.
Lent us a new 1200GS for a day while they tried to find us a similar deal.
Cut a long story short as we had a bit of cash from a retirement fund and an exceptional deal we decided to buy a new R1200GSA. Thinking was I am 67, a lifelong biker and can reasonably see another 3 years of good health. Hope for much longer but you never know. We don't want anything else so we ordered then and there to avoid the VAT increase.
Love it. 4000miles later riding around Crete. Big tank most useful when we had petrol strike. Planning return to UK end of
In the winter ride the old bonnie with the Greek Classic Bike Club. No anoracs just guys who ride old bikes. Bonnie with knobblies not bad on dirt roads or snow on mountain passes

Hi there. i am glad everything worked out for you.
it is a somewhat bad thing when we have to make purchase decisions based on our time left to ride. done that myself. oh well at this point a day of riding is worth 10 of anything else.
be well
ride,enjoy,repeat!!!!!

Re:Hello from Crete
overnight ferries to Athens every night. Leave around 11 pm arrve early morning. East to West Crete about 250 miles, North to south about 50 miles but further by road as you will have to cross a mountain range.
