I’ve just received a pair of klim Dakar pants, without sounding really daft, how do you fit knee armour? I can’t find any pockets for the armour

With the Dakar trousers I used to wear the strap on (steady....) type knee protection. I can’t remember the brand but they were double hinged. Very comfortable combined with wearing a Pro Skins base layer to prevent chafing.

Yep, as OnHellas says, it's all about the strap-ons...
Plenty of room for them on both the 'In-The Boot' and 'Over-The -Boot' types.
Very happy with my Dakars, even in the only colour I could get cheap at the time, which make me look like some kind of dayglow fireman.

There's loads to choose from Goth. About £30-60 quid gets you a useful pair. Get ones with hinges. If you have dodgy knees you can get the clever sprung motocross ones, which take a lot of strain off your knee joint (but they cost a LOT more).

My Fox pair cost just 30 Euros and are still good after 5 years and a fair few crashes. Still comfortable too, for one day's riding. But they can rub and get sore after 5 days of off-roading, so long socks would help. Or just wear tights under your strap-ons (oops, wrong forum....).

I've been using Thor Force MX knee guards for 6 years now.

They've been great.

Hi again Gothbiker
I just repaired a rip in my Klim Dakars, and found a little pocket on the inside for fitting knee pads!! Hurrah!! There's a small velcro patch. Just tear that upwards and there is a compartment on each leg for knee-pads. I never knew.
If you don't want to go down the knee-protector route (above) then at least there's another way...

Thanks for getting back dave, I can feel a pocket for armour but can’t find any access unless I’m being thick...

Well maybe my one's different to yours? On mine, you just put your hand up inside the ankle-end of the pants and there's a small velcro patch that you can untear and it clearly allows you to insert some armour.
I still much prefer the proper knee protection we've already talked about.
