So after the outing on the plain I thought I’d fit the clean air filter so I re oiled the clean one and took the oil one out.

I’m an air filter novice really.. but it’s recoiled, I’m thinking I put to much oil on it as it’s dripping down the side of the bike. Will the excess just drip off then be fine or should I be concerned and take some action?

I always cleaned my twin air filters in non biological washing powder then reoiled lightly in a plastic bag.. Too much me think you have used .. If carrying a spare keep in plastic bag..

You can get special fluid but i just used lighf engine oil...

Probably a bit too much oil there...just take the filter out and squeeze out the excess. As Tramp says, do it in a plastic bag, and you can put the other filter in it when cleaned and squish it about a bit.

A dedicated filer oil is stickier than std engine oil and has greater water repellency.

If it’s dripping then there is probably too much oil on it. The oil should penetrate the filter but not soak it like a sponge. Wash, rinse, dry, oil, let the excess evaporate, fit to bike .

I'd say you have over oiled the filter ,I did the same when reoiling my Varadero K&N filter .
After fitting the filter the bike would not tick over & even after a good run it still wouldn't tick over so out it came & cleaned & reoiled again with less oil.

I have made a mess of oily oily air filters on bikes.

I guess the idea is to allow the air to travel through the filter material
while lightly coating the inside of the air holes with a thin sticky layer
but still allowing air flow to maintain petrol/air mixture
but trap dust?

It’s all a learning curve eh. The instructions said let it settle for 10 mins but look what came out. Good news is the bike starts!

Kitchen roll is your friend in such cases

As all above really. Put some in a clear bag so it lightly coats the inside of the bag and then put the filter in and give it a good squishing around. Technical term. Lol.
