Go on tell me about soft panniers ?

Looking for a set of soft panniers for my GS800. They will only get used periodically so don't really want to spend £000 on them.
Don't even need them too big, just carry a few tools, pump and spare tube plus some clothes.
Waterproof is good but I'm happy to wrap the contents in bags?
Was looking for some comments as to what you might recommend ?

Right - I was in exactly the same position on the same bike.
I opted for the framed SW Motec bags, great, hard wearing totally waterproof, survive off road, easy on and off flexible so you can pull them in nice and tight for filtering, look the business
With good frame! Cost me £316 with the frame and both bags they are exactly what i wanted.

To summaries i went offroading with them and they survived several offs brushing through undergrowth without even a blemish, the following ktm with his hard luggage however - lets just say i had to loan him some straps
The bad bits - the plastic mounting system isnt worth its build, you need the strap across the seats, but thats why its there i guess. I also use velcro to attach the bags for extra security from the d clips to the frame. But you can load them up and strap to the top of them lots of loops for straps etc. I can put up some photos if you like. B)

I've used ex army canvas rucksacks about £12 each on my F8gs strapped to Sw motech frames worked fine and I don't think you'll get 'luggage' any cheaper. Very durable if you intend to use off road. Had to use liner bags but no big deal. Also have a couple of Kriega bags which are excellent but quite expensive. Might be worth looking at some of the lomo products see if anything suits or could be adapted as they seem to be excellent value (thumbs)

I bought a cheap set of used Oxford ones 2 panniers and tank bag for £50 did a few long trips in rain etc worked great soldeal them on eBay and got my money back as upgraded to hard panniers may be worth a look

You can buy the sw motec ones without a frame for about 150 quid. There a barging at that price. I initially did but they would not secure on my various frame so got a framedate one as a replacement. Very impressed with them for the money

Must admit I cant find them online at that price. Most places seem to sell them complete with frames !

I use one of those throw over back that sits on the rear rack or back seat and has side bits, I don't tend to carry a huge amount and hate panniers sticking out the side of the bike so this works form and is quick to take off and put back on.
I think mines a Jofama?

Bykebitz sold them to me for 175, their customer service was exceptional and no issues with returns either. May be worth contacting them if your interested.
