sorry to open an old can of worms, but got to get some fresh feedback, its time to buy some new tyres for me GS
i have bridgestones on at the moment and i got 5200ish miles out of em, the bike sticks to the road like shit to a blanket, but i want something that will perform better on the rough stuff, i understand that its a compromise between road and off road but there is tracks i want to explore around here ( this is the first GS i have owned and its screaming to get off road )


i have been thumping around on my xt500 but thats due for a rebuild so the GS has to be used on tracks and Tarmac


i am after a good 70/30 road / off road tyre, experience counts so thats why i am asking, i have a million miles plus on road tyres, and about 600 off road, so i am lacking in experience

But there all a compromise and to be honest it's down to what you want out of a tyre

had anake's 1st gen on my triumph better than the bike really

as for what I want I don't mind losing a bit on road to gain off road if that makes sense ?? ill just have to adjust my riding on the black stuff my inner me keeps lingering on conti tkc but not being used to knobblies ill think ill lose too much confidence on road

pose value knobbies look the dog's on gs's

I've used Karoo 3 a few times for that kind of riding. Not bad on the road either but wear hard on the front of a GS and end up with a saw tooth like shape to the snipes. I found them as good as TKC 80 on the lanes but better on the road. A bit noisy though.

yep I liked the avon trail riders on my LC GSA that I had good tires very predicable on the road to

Good tyres (I have them) but not remotely a 70/30 tyre

Karoo 3 on all the bikes at BMW wales ,when I asked about the wear I was quoted 3500 ish normal riding but a lot quicker if hard riding off road.Excellent grip both on and off road but I found they gave a whirring road noise at speeds on tarmac.

Another one for Anakee Wilds. Noisy on the road but best off road grip I've found in a tyre on a 1200 GS. Wear rate is also good for a 'knobbly'. About to replace my rear at 5000 miles. Half that for a TKC80, though the Contis are a bit more refined on road. Quite happy with Heidenau K60s on a smaller bike (Husky TR650), which could be a good compromise.

Compromise is the word that springs to mind.
What surface are you going to ride on the trails? A good mud tyre that is also good on tarmac which will last doesn't exist.
TKC's are shite in mud, can be slippy on tarmac and will last 4k miles on the back of a GS if you are lucky.
54k miles on the original Tourances and I see no reason to change. They do all the trails I want to ride (many 2 up), last 10k miles on the back BUT they are shite in mud which suits me because I don't like mud either. Alps, Dolomites, Morroco, Stella Rally, Picos and Pyrenees trails all 2 up without dropping it
