KTM 690 rear shock

Post by Timcat »

I've got a 14 plate 690R Rally, bought second hand with plenty of upgrades & suits me fine. Only gripe I have is the rear shock, it sits low at the back & when loaded up with gear it's way too low.
Question, what are my options? Fit the older 690 shock (think it was longer?) don't want to go down the Ohlins route ( I know they're good as I have one on my AT Rally) but cost a fortune...Thoughts..

Get the right weight of spring for it.

eta - you say 690R rally. Do you mean a 690 enduro R with some kind of "rally" kit attached to it, or do you mean a 690 RR because they are very different beasts entirely.

690RR I wish Mike! No a 690 Enuro R Omega systems one...But even with an uprated spring wont it sit at the same height?

No, with an uprated spring it won't compress as much, both under the weight of the bike, and your weight/luggage.

e.g. on my 450, I have a heavy spring in it and as such it sits higher when the bike is on the stand, upright and with me on it.

As Mike says just fit a heavier/stronger spring.
You'll also find the initial travel is smoother as well due to the spring rate being correct.
