Re: Bmw
I don't have one but the model does interest me and I would choose it over the R1200GSA.
I think the market has concentrated so much on Retros, Adventures and Nakeds that the usefulness of a shaft-drive sporty bike (sports-tourer as opposed to tourer) has been forgotten. Perhaps its the punters who are to blame - even Triumph's attempt with the clean lines of the Sprint GT hasn't exactly set the world alight (chain-drive, mind) despite it's excellent price point.
I must test ride one. My mate did recently, and preferred the R1200R - but on looks alone I'd definitely choose the RS.
I would also be interested to hear about the real-world tank range once you've had the bike a while, Tobyduke.

Re: Bmw
I agree.I'm a fan of sports tourers even if it's not fashionable. They suit what I want.If I do ever get a BMW an RS is the one I would want,I think they look great.Welcome along! (thumbs)

R1200RS Fuel useage over two weeks, uk to Norway and back from the satnav display
Trip2/economy2 Total/mpg etc and last day trip1/economy1 mpg 800 plus miles, Denmark to Devon
'real world tank range' over 160/180 safely but can be pushed nearer to 200 if you fill to the top of the tank and not the lower lip as per the manual. Tank range comes up around 50miles on reserve but even when down to 20miles left I never get the total amount I expect back to full. May have more 'reserve' than I think but have never done a 'run to dry' test while carrying a can of fuel.

Bought one a year ago done 8000 miles mostly touring in Europe this year super bike all day long comfy we averaged around 200 miles each day got near 60mpg and still had a bit of rubber left on the original tyres (metzler Z8 replaced now with metzler 01) never had that mileage on any other bike or tyre. the side stand is too long as the bike stands near vertical and first gear is a bit high other than that delighted with it.
