Was chatting to an old mate yesterday and he was saying that his dream trip on his bike would be riding to Nordkapp ( North Cape ) in Norway. Well that got the old juices flowing so I've been checking it out with my maps and through Mr. Google. Over 5000 miles round trip. There must be some intrepid riders on this forum who have made the trip so I would be interested in the pros and cons of such an adventure.
Thanks in anticipation of some good advice/tips.
Nick.

Re: Anyone been to Nordkapp?
I went the long way round,( through the Baltic states and up through Finland) quite a trip! well worth the effort if you have the inclination.
I only did 7000 miles going through about 18 countries so maybe a more direct route would be a less than you think?

Too often I would hear men boast of the miles covered that day, rarely of what they had seen.- Louis L'Amour

Re: Anyone been to Nordkapp?
You can do this trip on any reliable bike.
Norway is still one of the most expensive countries on the planet.
The weather is not predictable, be well prepared to stay warm and dry.
Fantastic scenary.
Nordkapp Visitor Centre is a rip-off,but very photogenic, and it's not the northest point either
Driving in Norway takes time - don't rush it

Re: Anyone been to Nordkapp?
I was chatting to a lad in Lancs the other week, and he'd done it - but said it was duller than dishwater - although he was glad he'd ticked it off the list, he wouldn't do it again...
When I asked why it was dull, he said it was like riding an endless A-Road through the same forest, on a loop, at 49.9 miles per hour (cause the Noggy Plod will take your bike off you for speeding) and everytime he stopped, it made his wallet cry.

Been twice !
Last year, 2 up on the GSA 1200
Previous year as a solo ,camping all the way.
Quite easy ,but (imho) rewarding trips .
As others have said Norway is expensive ,hiddiously expensive if you were not careful.
Camping is not too expensive ,and I just shopped at supermarkets and did my own food /brews every day
As others have said ,you need to prepare properly and have your gear in good order .
Go for it , EVERYONE there speaks English and were almost unfailing pleasant

Re: Anyone been to Nordkapp?
Not been yet but, I was advised if I did go, then to take plenty of small bottles of booze, whiskey, vodka, rum etc. If you don't drink it then it is a VALUABLE for of currency. A bit like taking sweeties and glass beads for the natives. (thumbs)

Re: Anyone been to Nordkapp?
When you say make sure your gear is in good order, what would you recommend with regard to warm/cold weather gear for a trip in May? I'm struggling to decide what range of clothing to take.
Re: Anyone been to Nordkapp?
My mate Ratass Jon and myself rode up thro Norway last June camping all the way, lots of everything rain, wind, sun, snow on the ground....well vented suit and a waterproof over suit!! Loved every minute will be going back.
