2nd attempt at posting this question.

Will the Zuma 340 work on 6 volt as well as 12 volt without damaging it?

Also I have tried to contact Garmin GB on the phone numbers provided online but none of them work.What is the problem?

Zumo 340 power consumption is 5V so somewhere along the line there must be something that reduces the voltage from 12V to 5V, so this will reduce the Voltage from 6V to 5V.
I am not an electrical engineer, I've asked someone who is and he can't see that it will cause any damage.

Have a look at the bike lead that comes with it the transformer should have a label with the input voltage range listed

Are you hooking it up to an old bike?

I am not much of an electrical engineer so take all this with a pinch of salt.

6v going into the transformer will probably mean it won't work but it probably won't break it. You could hook the lead up (without the gps) and check the output with a voltmeter. If it's between 4.5 and 5.5vdc all is good but it would be worth testing it for a few hours and feeling it to see if it got hot or anything.

However as the device needs between 4.4 and 5.5v to work it would be worth checking what voltage you are actually getting at the terminal. You might not need the transformer at all.

The 6volt bike is a DI (125) BSA Bantam 1953.

I have now fitted the Zuma to my 12 volt (converted) D7 1959 Bantam and it's working fine, but it would prove too difficult to change all the wiring over to use on the D1.

For that reason I have knocked the idea on the head.

## I do have another question though. I would like to fit a single set of ear phones from the Zuma but I can't see where it could be plugged into the device.

Is it possible to do this I wonder?

I can't get Garmin on their phone numbers to ask.

There should be a little flap at the bottom of the Zumo if it had audio out.

Im not aware of the 340 supporting audio out except through bluetooth.
As for the other bike Id suggest posting on some of the specialist websites for older bikes you might find someone who has had the same issue and makes a 6v to 5 or 12 volt converter that would work.

£4, well worth a punt.

They do say in the thread I linked to that GPS systems are quite voltage tollerant and will run at 6 volts direct from the battery.This said Id suggest if your charging mobiles and such its safer to install a step down circuit.
