Just wondering if anyone else on here suffers from the vicious gout demon and how do you defeat it.

My understanding is that Asprin aggravates it but Ibuprophen eases the pain

Not me but the missus.
Go to your DR
Probably prescribe Colchicine but be warned can give you severe diarrhoea, but you must finish the course. If this happens ask for Loperimide will block you up quicker than a cork.
If suffer continuous bouts of gout then diet and meds can such as Allopurinol to control uric acid will help. Touch wood missus hasn't had any bouts for a year or two now.
My missus reckons the pain is worse than child birth, so wholly sympathize with you.

I to would recommend Colchicine but prescription only and it certainly worked for me after hobbling round for several days but I did not suffer from diarrhoea at all.

Allupurinol is the cure, I have suffered on and off for years, now take one tablet every day, no more reoccurrences for years now.Although its prescription only in UK, its over the counter in Spain,Greece and I think France much cheaper than UK, so I always buy when I'm away.
I can confirm the pain is AGONY :woohoo:

Me landlord gets it, allegedly hereditory as he doesnt drink or eat red meat
He swears by cherries, eat as many as you can stomach, even jam helps (cherries break down uric acid).......& lots of rest til it calms down
Gouts been around a lot longer than pills have

I try to do without pills for it too.soda water and cherry juice works to a certain extent, keep foot elevated, ice packs, glucosamine all help sometimes.

I've suffered from it off and on for twenty years, it's like diabetes in that you never get rid of it, you can only try and control it. For a long time I tried using diet and lifestyle but the only totally successful period was the two years I was a teetotal vegetarian. In the end my resolve cracked and I went on the Allopurinol and back to meat and lightweight drinking but I still get the occasional attack and have had to increase the dosage. Probably not what you wanted to hear but I'm afraid that's my experience.
