Recommendation for best enduro for short a@&e

Post by Morris »

Can anyone please advise on the best enduro (400 cc +) to look for if one is short of leg length. I'm 5' 6"

I'm sure this has been asked many times but I couldn't find anything

Many thanks

Are you racing Enduros or trail-riding ?

I have seen many a "not very tall" person riding normal, full height enduro bikes at events.

Pretty much any bike can be lowered a bit or softened so that the suspension will compress enough to get a foot down. Too much though and you compromise ground clearance.

We used a guide in France who was maybe 5ft tall and he got going like you would on a push-bike and if he stopped on the bike, he used a low wall, tree stump or someone else's foot-peg to lean on.

If you're a novice and trail-riding, you really don't need a 400cc+ bike so you options should be more.

Couldn't agree more.

For trail riding a 250cc 4 stroke is perfect + reasonable amount of choice for the vertically challenged.

If you are after an enduro bike for taking part in enduro's, there are probably better websites and forums than ABR to give you advice.

I'm 5'6" with a 29" inside leg. I used to ride a standard KTM 250 EXC 2 banger. Couldn't touch the ground unless one leg was sort of 'hooked' over the seat but because it was so light it wasn't an issue.

If you mean a proper 'enduro' (ie a race bike) then they are all tall. You can set the suspension with a bit more sag in it than usual, which will help (along with the light weight and narrow seat). But if you are just starting out, I'd get either a 250 4T or a 200 2T.

If you want a bike with an 'enduro' badge that's really a road-oriented trail bike then the Aprilia Pegaso Trail (with the Yam 660 engine) seemed to be set up for folk with short legs.

Ot if you want a capable trail bike, forget about 400 cc and get a Kawasaki Super Sherpa, a Yamaha Serow, an AJP, a Beta Alp or a GasGas Pampera MkIII. All are 200 - 350 cc and perfect for trail riding.
