Morning all,
On my Tenere i have an area of surface rust that i want to get rid of. It is on the frame under the oil drain bold and right behind the front wheel.
The crap etc from the road has blasted the frame and left an area of light surface rust about 4cm by 3cm. I can't take it all apart as its the frame so i need to fix it in place.
I can sand it to base metal but what should i spray paint it with?
Any ideas please?
Mike

Re: Bit of rust
Don't sand it back to base or you will have to Prime, Undercoat & Topcoat.
Wire brush it & use Hammerite on it.

As picos said then a nice layer of acf50 over it all

Re: Bit of rust
cheers for the response.
It was covered in ACF 50 but the Tenere front mudguard does a great job at directing road crap straight on this patch.

The bash plate is on and does not cover this part. This is about 3cm above where the plate stops.mjojom wrote:fit the bash plate?

i would extend bash plate, 10 quid job asking nicely in some garage. if not, respray properly and as protective coat you can get bitumen spray paint. Ive done my aluminium bashplate mainly to stops rocks ringing against ali metal. thats the paint you use for wheel arches, under body etc. its flexible, and cushing and it does not chip from stones.
Re: Bit of rust
I had the same next to the foot rests on my 1200 GSA.. right were the heel of boot sits/rubs .. Dried it off removed grease etc with brake cleaner and then painted it with hammerite smooth ... worked a treat , could tell the difference between original paint etc ... no signs of rust repairing even after another year of use
Re: Bit of rust
wrap a piece of cloth around the area soak it with vinegar and cover it in a plastic bag for a few days this will eat the rust clean and paint then cover with some vinyl to help defend against damage
