Re: king of cold
My bucket list trip is this one, up West coast of Norway around to Kirkennes. I would be interested in hearing more about this one because its a long one and obviously subject to weather although the K takes that in its stride.Paul wrote:It wasn't planned believe me, and the temperature or lack of it made me turn around and not complete my journey which was meant to take me to Kirkness on the Russian border.
I think I summed up my trip in the article in ABR, I had a breakdown of sorts and decided to do my Arctic trip.
Better now though, :silly:

Re: king of cold
The Advice I received when heading North in Norway in January was to stay inland and avoid the coast, the reason being that the effect of the gulf stream (whilst keeping the temperatures up) makes the going more treacherous, much more possibility of refreeze and black ice, once it gets really cold ice will actually give a little more traction.92kk k100lt 193214 wrote:My bucket list trip is this one, up West coast of Norway around to Kirkennes. I think the most dangerous conditions I encountered were coming down from the Cold of the Ostredalen toward the Trondheimsfjord, it got warmer, there was rain, the road surface was a mixture of water, ice and snow and wouldn't clear from the tyres and as I had no studs it was lethal
But to feel like the only man alive when the weather was rough enough to keep the cars off the road as I popped out of my tent of a morning was worth the price of entry
I look forward to returning for more and would like to spend a few weeks camping this winter having geared up in accordance to the lessons I've learnt, there is something addictive about it
