whats the max cc for a Dakar bike

I am just wondering what is the maximum cc for a bike in the Dakar
I thought it was 450cc but have seen a few 650cc+ Dakar bikes for sale are these old dakar bikes or is the 450cc rule for only main category

it is 450..privateer was allowed bigger bikes when the ruling came in originally, now it applies to all entrants

Yup 450 for the Dakar but pretty much anything for any other rally :blink:

Believe it was brought in to slow the bikes down a bit.

Yes and no, the technical sections will be quicker and the lighter bikes will bog down less in the sand. But on the open stretches they won't have the top speed of the 950's
