Hey guys,

Interested in riding to Alaska next year. Who has done this? Is the road 100$ paved or is there some dirt riding? Was planning to do the Cassiar.

Planning to rent from a company that does one ways called MotoQuest. No one way fees and they rent 1200GS. Good idea?

Hi

You might want to try asking on the HUBB. Probably a bit more info on that neck of the wood on there

Good luck

I looked into this for a trip earlier this year. You need to get the timing right.

Too early and you will ride into winter very quickly, then there's the black fly season, closely followed by the mosquito season, then autumn comes along quickly followed by winter. August seems to be the best time. We were going to go in May but it would have winter still.

The mozzies were not an issue this year, UNTIL
we went north of Fairbanks onto the ice road Then the brutes were EPIC

We were there earlier this year. You can see the ride report from this section of our blog.

If you read from about 1/2 down this post and a few later ones.

Ray & Karens Blog

Interestingly, a few days before we were there, they had a lot of rain and the road conditions were very slippery. Bikers we had met who had done it just before us said they fell off several times.
For us however, it was fine. Luck of the draw type thing.

Me and Fantastic Mrs Fox are going to ride up to Alaska from Whistler (where we're living for winter) in about may time. Not sure of Highway conditions but I'm expecting a mix of gravel and tarmac roads.

The forest roads road here are pretty good any way.
