Help from the car boffins please...

Post by TomBoyNI »

I got a wee 2012 Polo with 6500 on the clock from Ifrom a local dealer 13 days ago.

So I have been working flat out and drove in it for a couple of days but since the weekend my commute has been on my bike.

Got home a little early today and decided to wash the bike and the car.

When going round the car noticed that on the passengers side I susppose it is best described as where some cars would have roof rails I noticed two cracks in the paint, which were rusted.

I didn't notice these when buying the car and I suppose I wouldn't have, as when you wash the car you see everything.

One is pretty big, about 19cm long, the second about 4cm long however I have no doubt like all little nasties it will grow.

Here are my questions :

1. What can I do? Take the car back, get if fixed, return it...

2. What is likely to have caused this? **** paint work, damage, collision badly repaired....

3. How likely is it to cause me issues in the future?

Here are a few pics to try and illustrate what I mean...

Don't worry, you'll be covered under the sales of goods act or whatever it's called, motor traders have a minimum 3 months warranty I believe but vw cars have a 10 year paint warranty anyway I think.

My first thoughts when I seen this was this car has been painted (after it was originally), I've never seen bad paint on a modern vw, I've had a few myself.

Take it back and see what they say, speak to CAB about your rights and if need be I'll dig out the correct acts for you.
But speak to them first

cheers Spud ;)

Just checked with my missus who works for a VW Audi main dealer.

VW's are covered by a five year corrosion warranty.

But, if it's deemed to be caused by outside influences, roofrack, you may have to part pay.
