There's a thread on the UK KTM forum about this and I've seen something before on ADVrider. Seems like recent KTM 990 Adventures have the same engine as the R version and that the extra power of the R is down to different mapping.
I'm curious to get to the bottom of this ... if it is just a matter of a simple remap then why don't all of us with recent 990s do it?
Has anyone done this through their dealer / do dealers acknowledge it is just a matter of a remap?
Is there any downside to having the remap?[/
'R' power in standard 990ADV?
Re: 'R' power in standard 990ADV?
I can only presume its something similar to the Varadero and the firestorm.
they share the same engine but totally different characteristics,
the 990adv is probably tuned down for fuel consumption and off road controllability
they're 'ard enough without extra mapping, I would not bother, sooner put my money on safari tanks if I had one

I have the 990R I also have the OBD2 connector and software, so if your in the area we could try the R map out on your bike and see if it makes any difference. If not can re install your original map. If in doubt see here -

Thanks Taffcd - would be interesting to try that out. Bit far from you at the moment though ... (Northern Ireland)
