Yep, had a great chat with him, if i remember right, he rode the DR 650 from Northern Ireland, down the west coast of Africa to South Africa, then shipped it across to South America, then rode all the way up to USA, across to the east coast and shipped it back to NI.

Respect

I only got to speak with him very briefly, but a very interesting dude, loads of stories about his adventures.

Just proves you don't need the newest, biggest or most expensive adventure bike to do the overland adventure thing

If only I had the balls, coupled with the money and time to do something similar

Yeah he also rode across Europe as far as China !!! on a BMW 650 before the bike got destroyed ,he then flew to Australia bought a 125 and rode it around for a month before coming home :silly: you should get him to do a talk at your next rally i think he has done a few talks with slide shows here and there .He has a few tales to tell ,did you see the mods he made on the old 650 ,i think he had over 500 miles of fuel at one point to cross the Atacama desert,Any of the NI guys looking work done to their bikes should give him a bell a great mechanic aswell .

Yeah had a look at the bike with him, well impressed, it shouted "adventure". I had the more road orientated version, XF650, with the same engine etc. Pretty bomb proof by all accounts.

Sorry I missed the run on sat. Took a wrong turn and cost me 5 mins arrived at 9.35 and when you said 9.30 sharp depart it certainly must have been. Saw a few guys knocking about and asked them but they said main run had gone. Looks like a great day out and plenty of 'craic' . Oh well there is always next year ( I hope) to meet up and enjoy a days biking . I'll definitely leave a bit earlier. But well done to all involved .
