Here's a couple of questions I wouldn't mind getting a second (or third) opinion on.
Firstly, the 'Wee Beastie' and I are off to Africa for a Globebusters bash later this year and I am thinking of changing the cast wheels to spoked wheels, I have a spare set from an older GS. Am I being a little over cautious and should just stick with the cast wheels or is this a sensible precaution in case I need to do a repair?
Secondly, is it worth getting new discs on the spoked wheels and new TP sensors or just sticking with the ones I've got? I'm thinking about getting to a point where I've got roady wheels and trailie wheels... Although that seems a little extravagant to be honest. But would welcome thoughts.

Spoked Wheels Questions...
I've just answered my own question on the disks front. Put the micrometer on them this afternoon and they're down to 4mm.

I'd go for spokes but wouldn't bother with the TP gubbins.
You can get a spoked wheel repaired most places, not so a cast wheel.
If they are GS wheels you will still be able to run tubeless so you are not likely to suffer a blow out, just take a cheap pencil type tyre pressure like the rest of us poor mortals rely on
Actually I'd run tubes as they're easier to fix in the back of beyond and in the event you have to have a new rim laced on in the wilds of Africa, I doubt it's going to be a fancy BMW one that allows tubeless anyway (although I'm sure you could bung a tube in if it happens)

It seems extravagant, until you do it. No more compromising on pure road rubber, no more trashing trail tyres on long road rides. I can have my wheels changed over in 15 minutes, I imagine it's even quicker with your shaft drive.stuartgoble wrote: I'm thinking about getting to a point where I've got roady wheels and trailie wheels... I've always been able to swap the wheels quickly, so perhaps that's a good point.

Isn't running tubes in a tubeless tyre going to create heat issues in the tyre itself. I had thought about it but worried about the additional dresses on the tyre.Mad Cow wrote:I'd go for spokes but wouldn't bother with the TP gubbins.

The 'issue' of tubes in tubeless tyres is a real non -issue.
I've had three bikes with tubes in tubeless tyres as original equipment off the showroom floor (including a 130+ mph KTM).
Never had a problem, never heard of anyone else having a problem.
