my coast to coast trip on my baby Varadero

Post by stumpym4 »

Just got back from a 621 mile run on the Baby Vara ... from Birmingham up into the lake district (day 1, 191 miles) for some amazing scenary .. honister pass is a must to ride and then through the Yorkshire dales and then the Yorkshire moors all in one day (245 miles and very very windy on the moors) and then back home ..... all in 3 days , a massive amount of mileage for such a small bike .... St bee`s to robins hood bay the scenic route ..... aka coast to coast :)
The bike carried me .. 15 stone plus all my camping gear , clothes food etc 621 miles and it never missed a beat including being blown over one night outside my tent.
it still averaged over 90 mpg despite some massive hills to climb and been kept at 8000/10000 rpm`s for literally hours on end on the dual carriage ways .... it only struggled a few times up the hills but then so was everything else.
the only mod I did was fit the 15T sprocket which really helped it on all the flat out stuff ...... why didn't Honda fit an extra gear ????
I highly recommend having a little adventure on your baby V`s ..... its an AMAZING little bike ... don't let the fact that its only a 125 stop you having a fab weekend away .... the bike did everything I asked from it and so much more ..... it was excellent despite the shocking weather ..

Nice going matey.

Makes me want to do something similair on my Small Vara (it's not yellow, so it's not wee  ;) ).

Lot to be said for doing something like this on a smaller bike - a real challenge for the rider & the machine.

Again, nice going and thanks for sharing

the weather was fine in the lakes, just the moors where it was torrential rains and high winds blowing me all over the road !

Great stuff. Recently bought my wife a Baby Vara. Great bikes. I know what you mean about the extra gear. What top speed difference does the 15T make? Not sure what the standard is but I expect its on my wifes bike. Get 70mph at 12,000 revs. Top speed on the flat is about 75mph but this is 500 into the red at 12,500 revs.

Some of us know that happiness isn't measured in cubic centimetres and when the speed limit is less than 70mph you don't need a big engine.

The standard front sprocket is 14T, the 15T is the biggest you can get on, not sure on top end as haven't had it that fast, 50-60mph is fine for me for now, it just helps the top end feel more comfortable .. have never taken it over 10,000 rpm !!
Fitting a 15T may increase your road speed but this wont show on your speedo ! depending on what year varadero you have, as the later ones, after 07, the speedos are driven off the gearbox not off the front wheel, so check you speed against a sat nav etc for an accurate speed.
alot depends on what type of riding your doing, I fitted the 15T because my daily commute is lots of dual carriage way and didnt like revving the engine that hard.
