Re: Bennetts three Mods rule!

For me, the most suprising thing was the total lack of reaction when I said I was taking my business elsewhere. He must have heard it loads of times that day already...it was almost a case of " oh never mind, whatever"
Methinks he was probably browsing the Carole Nash website for jobs as he was talking to me!

Equity Red Star insure loads of bikes through loads of brokers, in fact I am insured with them through Express Insurance. If this is a problem created by the insurer, how come every other broker hasn't had to issue the same policy?
I think Bennetts were lying to you about that. Well done for getting your policy cancelled.

Ralph I don't think they had a leg to stand on really in this dispute as they plain and simple didn't have this restriction in their policy schedule. Had MCN not brought it about then I'd be none the wiser today.-Ralph- wrote:@Still Gotta Pulse

I can't answer your question re Equity Star/Brokers but I can assure you that Equity Star are in fact the underwriters for Bennetts.
Re: Bennetts three Mods rule!
Has anyone had their policy declared null and void due to "accessories" being fitted to a bike.
And I mean "accessories", not performance enhancing modifications.

Re: Bennetts three Mods rule!
whilst i think what bennets is doing is totally daft you have to understand that they are just jumping the gun a bit.
Proposed new laws by the eurocraps will make it illegal to modify your bike at all, this law is supposed to come in Jan 2014 the current re-writing of the law is to allow certain factory approved mods, such as tyre changes however a gs1150 with non- bmw panniers would be illegal unless the pannier manufacturer gets them homologated for all the bikes they will fit.
the idea behind this was that it is considered by some plonkers that the fitting of non homologated accessories could destabilise the bikes (they obviously never heard of the honda 1300 paneurope weave when fitted with heavy panniers)
the original law was dreamt up to stop noisy exhausts etc but it has been re-written numerous times and each time a concession is won a new ammendment even more draconian is introduced.
owners will no longer be able to service their bikes! this is a big move supported by the manufacturers so that the concessionaires will gain more business (like the car world)
similarly abs will be compulsory and as the current wtiring of the law stands it will not be allowed to be switched off (they are fighting this )
if you think this is stupidity personified just wait, the straight banana is nothing compared to some proposals.
Also under consideration is stopping bikes from filtering in traffic
achip in the ecu that monitors speed so that when stopped at a roadside check they can ascertain that you had been speeding 3 weeks before.
The insane lengths that some eurocraps will go to eradicate biking altogether is unreal.
Happy Biking !!!:)

I hope there are not going to be any free thinking people, let alone Motorcyclists that are just going to sit back and let stuff like this happen....
Everyone should be aware that if this legistation goes through there will be no more motorcycling....
It would take 98% of all Bikes off the road straight away.. Loose thousands of Jobs in the aftermarket industry.... Remove peoples freedom of choice....
The moment a replacement part fer yer bike is not manufactured, you will not be able to buy a patern replacement, so yer bike will be scrap...

I expect Bennetts will use more than one underwriter.Still Gotta Pulse wrote:I can't answer your question re Equity Star/Brokers but I can assure you that Equity Star are in fact the underwriters for Bennetts.

Re: Bennetts three Mods rule!
I just had that conversation with Bennetts this morning.nick wrote:Has anyone had their policy declared null and void due to "accessories" being fitted to a bike.
And I mean "accessories", not performance enhancing modifications.
I recently fitted a new screen (Touratech) and Scottoiler to my F800GS. Apart from that, I have only factory-fitted options. With all the fuss about Bennetts policies I though I had better call them up and tell them about the accessories I had added.
Well, as soon as I told them they said that the broker was cancelling my policy because they would not cover a bike with any "modifications".
I responded by telling them that neither of the "modifications" would make any difference to the performance or handling of the bike (and even made most strongly the point that the Scottoiler is not a "modification", it is an accessory), but they were adamant that they could only cancel the policy, and find me an alternative underwriter that would accept to cover my "modified" machine. I told them I expected a full reimbursement, as they were cancelling the policy, not me, but they insisted that they would charge me an administration fee and an "early cancellation fee", meaning I would get next to nothing back, despite having 9 months to run on the policy. I disputed this, stating that as far as I was concerned they had missold me the policy as they had not told me of any restrictions on modifications (only that I should inform them if I were to make any), and that there is nothing in their terms and conditions or policy documents that make any mention of not permitting addition of accessories. After much back and forth with a "supervisor", they agreed that they would put a note on my policy that I had added the screen and Scottoiler, that the policy would continue unchanged, and there would be no charge. They agreed (albeit reluctantly, with further reference to a "supervisor") to send me a letter stating that this is what they had agreed to. Very big of them.
Needless to say, I will not be renewing my policy through Bennetts when it comes due next year.
The underwriter for the policy is Royal Sun Alliance.
Re: Bennetts three Mods rule!
Been away for a while. 3 mods? That’s me screwed then....
Changed the profile of my tires by riding on them
Its covered in dirt and mud just like an enduro race rider
The 2 handles I’ve added so i can grab them while bent over and nailed in the keister by EU, Police, MP's, Ramblers, Insurance Companies......
I'm thinking of selling the bike and buying a hot hatch with banging ICE, loud pipes and go cruising
