Wake up the next morning after a good sleep....break camp and get ready to follow the trails.

Just above the handlebar on the moto in the background there's a beige coloured horizontal line...this is a 4x4 silty annoying trail that you'd think is the only trail to take. Ride to cliff and hang left along the bottom of same.

Stick to the silty trail on a moto and you'll get tired quickly.......don't follow the 4x4 route here.

Image

The going starts off a bit silty then moves to hard pack plains very quickly.....cruise along standing up km by km. We'll soon be at Lac Maider where you can sit down on the flat going at full speed...great!!!!

You can see the cliffs ass mentioned above and how close you'll be to them to find good going.

We'll head to the dip in the background where the tree is, to Lac Maider and or Tafraoute.

The trails will bottle neck into two or three.....keep right for Tafraoute village centre and left for Lac Maider.

There'll odd short stretch of silt here and there.

Not long after breaking camp we arrive for tea.....

Follow the electric cable to the tea room.......I filled out a Health and Safety Report form ( that I carry in my pocket just in case) in triplicate in case someone from our party got zapped.......well.......because that's what you have to do....that showed them.

Image

Park up and relax.....

Image

I advise to buy water, if you want to......strangely enough, those that didn't do so before do so now.

Image

erm....just walk in and buy it......

Image

See...... I bought some, so it must be easy.....

Tea is prepped .....

We crew up and ride to the start of Lac Maider a 100m or so from the auberge. This is a massive dried lake bed that you can open up the moto until the other side...you'll not get lost as there's the odd boulder sitting there to guide the way.

We'll head for auberge Dinosaur Kem-Kem to visit and say hello. Just short of the auberge it is annoying and silty...after the auberge we'll leave the soft going and ride on fast hard pack plains until Zagora.

Image

We arrive and take 15-20 minutes there chatting and taking pics.

Image

Image

Back in 2012...no fuel here these days....

Image

I remind him that it was Al dropping his moto exciting the auberge last year and hoses himself when it clicks with him giving a thumbs up....... I tell him I'll email the video so he can watch it over and over again so as never to forget again...... I know...I'm a kind soul.

Image

As an aside I ask him how he's been and he tells me he'd come of his scooter and broke his wrist.....he spent 13 hours on a pick up to the hospital where he arrived on a Friday...he lay until Monday before having an operation....and on the third attempt they got it right. I give him 100MAD to help him on his way the little I can.

Food for thought.....

One 4x4 and nine moto's crew up to ride to Zagora.

Image

In 50m the going will be hard pack fast plains riding....standing up at 100 kph for km after km.....

When one leaves Kem-Kem....don't take the wide route that is obvious.....this is a wide trail with deep sand and whoops for about 100m......take the less obvious route to your RHS where it starts soft to climb but turns to some rock slabs......once over the other side it'll be that hard pack where you can now keep it lit.

Trail to take is just above the moto on the LHS.....a slight climb ......Just to the left of the generator house.

Image

Image

Fast wide plains.....km after km.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

The plains will turn to having the odd tree......but you can still keep riding fast on long stretches...

Image

Image

We stop to regroup .....and within a few minutes a local arrives as normal....
