Cornering

If you know how to do something, share it with other members. i.e How to fix a puncture...How to ship a bike to Alaska etc. The post with the most 'Thank You' votes in a month wins an ABR Hoodie.

Without going into the dynamics of counter steering, some years ago I was in the Black Forest, 2 up on a Pan Euro and the weather was raining in biblical proportions. I was riding very slowly (typically 30mph) through the bends and it was extremely scary.
I then switched to counter steering and my riding just woke up. I did not go any faster but I was in a lot more control and felt a lot more comfortable.

What? You can't 'switch' to c/steering , it isn't optional!

If I could make myself clearer.

When I say I switched to "counter steering", I meant in a conscious way. Obviously I am doing it all the time anyway without thinking about it but on this occasion I deliberately pushed on the inside bar and It felt a lot safer in atrocious. conditions
That's exactly my experience too, it's the knowing that flicks a switch in your brain between instinct and conscious doing and that's when you relax, enjoy and improve. :)

That's awesome, puts me to shame, been moaning to myself today when I was tired and not having the effort to get the bike round corners with any pace, just shows how much I still have to learn.

If you have an hour and a half spare you could try watching this then putting the principles described into practice. It's American but don't hold that against them, it's very instructive
Why? Why not?

Twist of the wrist is the cornering bible, well worth a watch and read.

As for the video of the guy riding with no arm and leg, amazing, good on him for having the guts to make that happen!

Had a go and by jove, it works! Though I am better at going left than right  which should sort itself out with practice.

Pushing left to go left and the bike dipping and leaning makes no sense when it is described, but actually doing it and it makes perfect sense.
