I'm doing Lands End to John O Groats on Saturday. It will take me two days to get to Lands End from Norfolk, then four days to get up to JOG then 2 days to get back to Norfolk. I'm going by myself(thanks brother in law for dropping out at the last minute but im not bitter...)and camping all the way with very little planning involved apart from a quick look on google maps. To me, this is by far the most adventurus thing I have ever done by myself, so yes in my eyes I tick the box for "Adventure Bike Rider"
Have fun on your trip, take lots of pics for you BIL to enjoy  ;) .
What route are you taking, last time I did some distance the only rule I set my self was nothing bigger than B roads. :)

I am definitely not going to be an Adventure Rider this weekend.

Bet the forum is busy on Sunday....
Heading south Sunday for a few weeks - off to Santander and then somewhere..... no idea where but somewhere.... :-) Does that make me adventurous?
yes very ;)

cheers Spud ;)
I went to Santander on my bicycle the other week, does that make me an adventurer?
I presume you mean the city not the bank :)
It's not that much of an adventure if you set out from Bilbao!

I've made a plan of stopping off at a couple of places of interest per day. The only ones I have planned at the mo are Ace Cafe, Stone Henge and Cheddar Gorge but this will be for night times to revise whilst on route. I should only be on the bike for about 5-6 hours per day with where I'm stopping which is Salisbury, Lands End, Gloucster, Carlisle/Penrith, Fort William, JOG and Edinburgh/Newcastle. These are very fluid and like I said I don't have an ultimate plan.
I too Im planning on staying off motorways and A roads, though to get to Lands End I will have to hit the A303 at some time or it would take to long.
Like I said no particular route planned after the third day, I'm just going to wing it.
It's not often I get an 8 day pass off the wife so got to make the most of it..

We are probably all Adventure Bike Riders aren't we? But the thread asked if we were 'Adventure Riders'.

Having spent last night watching more 'Not Dead Yet' episodes, and this morning before work reading 'Days that must happen to you', with huge doses of longing, and jealously of these single blokes and wishing I could do the same myself*, whilst sitting in my 5 bedroom house with massive mortgage and my wife and kid, I thought of this thread and concluded...

I'm not an 'Adventure Rider', I'm an 'Adventure Dreamer'

Wonder how many of us fall into that category

* but asked whether I would actually swap my life for theirs, the answer would be no. After they've done their years adventure, what do they come home to, other than an empty flat, the dole queue, and a massive anti-climax? I've got the best in life already, doing a big adventure one day will just be a bonus.

It's not only Single blokes or single Ladies that travel.
In fact The best traveling I have done is with my Partner . I traveled through Morocco in 1986 and across America in 1987 on my own . Now I only have the memories and it would have been better had I had my wife with me back then to share it all with.

Believe me Its better to live a year as a Tiger then a Life time as a Mouse.

I have no pressure in my life , nor the worry of a Massive Mortgage

We have a 6 year old to look after just now. When I do finally get my big adventure, it will be with my wife once he's either flown the nest, or he's old enough to look after the nest on his own, or he's old enough to get on his own bike and come with us.

As we did .Once your kids have flown the nest and you have the courage to make changes in your life style, sell the big house and buy one smaller and kiss good by to the tread mill.
There is only one better feeling, but that's over on the thread ." ARE YOU A Adventurous Bonker " lol

That depends on how you define living as a Tiger. When I spend time with my wife and son on any leisure activity, I honestly treasure the day I'm living and think to myself that I've landed right on my feet and life doesn't get any better. After you quoted the post I edited and added that to have a big motorcycle adventure in my life would just be a bonus.

The massive mortgage isn't a worry as such, if I couldn't afford to pay it each month I'd just move to a smaller house, but what it does mean is that when I do retire and have no income (hopefully earlier than 65!), and can go off for months at a time on a motorbike, I won't be worried about money then.

I'm really lucky as far as away day or week passes go, the only down side is, she doesn't ride and won't get on the back of the bike, and I would love to share some of the location and views with her.
But I wouldn't roll the dice again.
