Re: BMW Servicing :-( Bloody Hell

For my car I bought a 10 pack of fuel filters after getting some bad diesel. Still using them. I do the same with oil filters and brake pads and other items like bulbs and often end up fitting something that's been on the shelf for 5 years or more. Last clutch cable that went in the car was there 10 years! I just buy consumable spares when the price is right mostly when my friendly main dealer was running special offers that were really good value. Stored well but the date remains the same.
BUT not doing work and charging for it is endemic and I caught a Mercedes main dealer doing it on a first service. They didn't want to know about until the new service manager came in asking for the car to be moved so they could service the Bentley that was parked behind it. He got very upset when I said no, its only moving when you take it into the workshop to do the service I paid your predecessor for last week. The appointment was prearranged with the previous manager after a very polite phone call. [He left because of workshop issues]. They still refused and threatened to call the police in! I laughed and said that's fine with me and a fabulous advertisement for your customer service. They never did do the service, but I moved the car when the guy eventually came out with a full refund of the payment for the non service. I then tried a more local main dealer only to discover he was as bad and owned by the first one. A family owned main dealer however proved to be a great find so not all are bad.
I still think away from chains is good, family owned is generally good and independents are under rated.
