bought a quechua 4x3.5m tarp to take to the XRV welsh national in snowdonia.
ive got a teepee style tent, the tarp has 6 tiedown points, 3 per long side, and tried 2 different pitching methods. first was diagonally with a corner on the top of the tent, opposite corner far out infront and the sides pegged down. didnt work very well because not being exactly square it didnt sit properly, so i tried the second- one of the centre tiedowns on top of the tent, the opposite on the pole out front, and the four corners pegged down so the whole thing looked like a conventional house roof. this worked a treat, as it was well wet and very windy that weekend and the wind was let out the sides before being able to balloon out and pull it out of the ground. tent stayed dry too. about a quarter of the tarps turned into kites, and many folks pulled theirs down before they blew away! mine survived

dude, someone ate a tandoori tindaloo and yakked on your bike, the basta....... oh no my mistake, i can see the redbullbull now, sorry.
does anyone use a tarp over just a hammock a la ray mears? or is that going a bit too far for most of us? personally i prefer the (perceived, if not real) security of a tent, but now ive used and trust my tarp i would have no second thoughts about weather cover
