Dirk wrote:A partially clogged oil screen would not cause it to burn oil and smoke.

You are more likely to be looking at Sticky/ worn oil control ring, or leaky valve seals
He said it doesn't smoke

Soot on number plate, could be a rich fuel mix

Oil only drops, he said

I had a XR250 which did the same, small decrease in oil - but no smoke at all

Cleaned the front downtube oil screen (as advised on Advrider and Thumper Talk in USA) and it was clogged, oil level stayed constant, from then on

Worth a try, before you take the head apart

Sounds like a plan JB, Where is the oil screen ?
Does it come out with the drain bolt at the bottom of the down tube ?
Sorry, I still haven't got a manual for the bike.
The bike starts first kick and runs sweet as a nut with no rattles etc and seems to be getting around 65mpg
Regards, Jok. (thumbs)

Bottom of front downtube, upstream of the big nut at the bottom

Ha,
It's now 2023 and I just stumbled upon this thread that I started 8 years ago ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜Ž
Guess what I still have in my garage ??
All tricked up.
Magura hydraulic clutch
Arrow big bore headers
Mikuni pumper carb
Top end refresh which solved the oil consumption.
Best bike I've ever owned, she's a keeper.

JB,
I'm seriously considering a Voge Rally to bimble about on and do some TET.
Took the Africa Twin Adventure Sport down the TET through France and 1000 miles off-road from Bilbao to Almeria. It's a cracking big travel bike but she's a tad heavy to lift when off-road ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿคฃ.
I'm thinking that the Voge 300 Rally could be a decent platform for B road travel and off-road in Europe. Plus, 95mpg, what's not to like ??

Maybe youโ€™re right with the Voge
