Hope you get the bike sorted Decco, Sounds like the dealer is trying hard to sort it and maybe getting your money back would sort the problem. But just a different view on the 690...
I've got one a 2014 I have had it about a year and 10,000 miles it's got 13,000 all up and it's been ace not a problem. Maybe I am just plain lucky.
Did morocco last October and Portugal in May.

Wow what a tale! A patient man for sure.
But this:
And its not hence the power loss and oil being forced up through the rings....
But this:
Would explain the problem, interesting. So too much oil is sitting in the small crankcase area the crank sits in, which is supposed to be scavenged (to make it effectively dry sumped and hence reduce power loss from oil sloshing around).felco wrote: Which was a butterfly valve which opens & closes to let oil lubricate the piston, this valve had been wedged open with swarf, so oil was slowing the piston down, obviously the reason the oil was low in the sight glass, it was all in the cylinder.after another 3000 miles & various other breakdowns I sold it.
And its not hence the power loss and oil being forced up through the rings....

I've ridden a number but that's not so relevant. I guess more relevant is the several dozen I've been involved in fixing. In my view it's the most unreliable model of the last 15 years.
Yes, there are some that have been faultless, before someone comes along and bangs that drum.

Re: Update 2 KTM 690 Engine Problems, anyone fancy a guess?
I know there was one which was on the 'fleet' at Bike magazine a year or 3 ago.
They had a 'loss of power' problem, I think. Anyway, when the engine was stripped with only a few miles on it, the piston looked like a lump of coal.
Needed a new piston, rings and other bits.

So in response to my engine woes with this bike, KTM are giving me a brand new bike.
Can't say fairer than that really, should be here in a couple of days on a 17 plate.
Only downside is I cant keep the Akro system from the old bike, I can have the other stuff on it. I can also get the AKRO system at cost price if I want it , but to be honest, It probably wasnt helping the problem.
So I should have a spanking new bike that I can run in myself.
