Yep Silver I did it after joining a local IAM group who binned the IAM became independent after IAM wanting ££ for not much so the club agreed being independent & doing IAM & ROSPA most where had are doing both any way & most felt ROSP has more too offer with the regular assessments with critique's where as IAM is a pass

RoSPA observed rides are technically free. All you have to do is pay your tutor £15 to cover there fuel, not RoSPA. Fair enough I think.

i get a small payment for petrol (£7) i take out two riders and usaly do in the region of 70-100mls on a evening.
i have to pay a joining fee to are group of £10 per year and a fee to RoSPA I THINK THAT £20 per year then the retest after thee years is covered by this annual fee.

so it cost me to help as an observer BUT i am putting something back into biking .

been doing this for 6 years and still enjoying it!!!!

I have group fees for ROSPA of £20 per year, the test is £54, most newbies then have to buy Roadcraft book and Highway code which is another £20 odd. There is a £5 per observed ride which goes into group funds, and the observers can claim fuel back from the group if they want to, but none of them do.

IAM Skills for Life you get the book, a years membership and the test. It is a bit more expensive. I forget whether retests are free with IAM if you were to fail (not many do, they won't put you through to the test until you are ready).

Both groups ask for fuel contributions, at differing rates depending upon the group.

Well today was the day. At 0930 this morning I was in a car park in Gloucester waiting for my examiner to arrive so I could start my test.
Had a very nice and enjoyable 50 mile ride covering towns, A roads, B roads, motorways etc etc.
Basically to cut a long story short.... I PASSED!!! :woohoo: I was awarded RoSPAs highest level which is Gold. I'm so happy it's unreal!! :cheer:

Not much around Birmingham, but go South into Warwickshire and Worcestershire and there's plenty.

Here's your OS map, select Ordnance Survey from the drop down menu at the top, then give it a bit of time to load.
