what a great idea!
Sadly, I'm not available to help out with the baton but I wish everyone well in the event & when I get paid this month, I'll make a donation instead.

From my own experience with "Curry-aid" merchandise can seem like a great idea on the surface but in reality it can be a pain. firstly you have to buy a reasonable quantity of T shirts, mugs whatever to ensure a profit margin, and then you have to be sure to sell most of it. An example is my book, I have ordered 250 copies to start with and need to sell 80 to cover the initial cost.
Sorry to put a negative into a great idea. Just my experience.

Hey Paul, I know all about paying for piles of books and having them sit around at home waiting to be bought
All t shirts would be paid for by our kind benefactor at Ignite. He could just pay the money directly but as you say, if I order up some half sensible t shirts and then sell them at +25%, then the charity gets 25% more as the costs were totally covered. Yes there is a risk, but I don't see selling 100 t shirts as that much of a challenge. Am I dreaming?

Sorry to sound negative in my previous post Will. I don't think selling 100 T shirts will be an issue, I sold 270 Curry-Aid calendars last year through the kindness of ABR.
And you only need to sell another 99, I will have one, XXL please.
Cheers,
Paul
nb, I offered assistance with the project in previous thread, Jctn 38 Cumbria if it's any use. Maybe I can do the last leg from Yorkshire to the HUBB or Scotland to Yorkshire, I don't mind a ride out.

Re: Cancer Charity Ride - An idea to raise cash!!
Hi all. Having thought about this great idea some more, I am thinking that for this year, that Will has got the right idea. The logistics of getting so many people organised for a "Tour of the UK" at such short notice is somewhat impossible. To try and link this to certain ride-outs/rallies this year is probably the best way to get this future annual event off the ground safely, and without too much hassle. I think as the event grows in years to come, there is no reason why this charity run can't evolve into a "Round the UK trip". Hope people don't find this a negative comment, but a more realistic approach to such a great idea, with hopefully many successful years ahead of it
P.S. Totally agree with the merchandise idea!

It can be done and HAS been check out the Ukgser forum and read all
About it
5th Sept 2006 over a 76.5hr period covering 2945 miles and the sum raised
For Breast cancer £14,667.
I was privileged to ride from Fort William to Inverness via The A87 and up the
West coast to Durness, John O Groats, finishing in Inverness with a great bunch
Of like minded people and still have great memories of the run.
What I would say is this part of the Journey must be done during day
Light as the dangers on single track roads and the presence of wild life roaming
Free in the N West of Scotland can't be ignored, indeed the lassie who rode from
Cumbria to Fort William had a close encounter with a deer on the A82 near Loch
Lomond
The Pink Way around Britain can be found in the charity Forum
On the Ukgser site should anyone wish to read it.
Best wishes to all who do there bit and Ride Safe wherever you Ride
