Took delivery of a new but temporary set of wheels - whilst in India it seems rude not to ride an Enfield!
Sort of reminds me of my old SR500.

I road an Indian spec RE Himalayan, in Nepal 2 years ago.
First model. With some issues that has been solved on later models.
Round trip of 2 weeks.

My personal view is that is perfect for the purpose it is built for.
Bad roads, low speed.
It is not an enduro bike.
It is not an autobahn cruiser.

But on bad roads, it makes a good job.
And in cities with heavy traffic.
Good torque, low down. You don not have to burn clutch, change gear all the time or hit "power spikes"
Low center of gravity. You do not feel the weight.
Robust design.
Good seating position (low)
Easy maintenance.

At a low price => good value.

I am thinking of buying one EU spec

Bowen Moto in Kent have a white ‘68 plate Himalayan with just under 800 miles available for £3695.
It’s got a few extras too I think.

Nothing to do with me but Mark Bowen is a nice chap so just trying to spread the word for him. They are Enfield dealers.

Thank you for an excellent review. If i had the computer expertise to compile a comprehensive review like this it would mirror it almost completely.

Thanks for the write up Jon it covers the idiosyncrasies of the Himalayan which most of us owners experience but love.
I followed your travels on Facebook and loved the warts and all blog of the twists, turns and dilemmas of the journey whilst dreaming of being out there myself.
I presume/hope you and the bike have made it back home?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, got back home OK, looks like I made it just in time! Glad you enjoyed the blog. It was a brilliant trip, and the bike was great, biggest problem was the gear shifter falling off. Luckily a passing car mechanic fixed it with stuff he had in his boot! His repair us still working fine, but will replace the bolt with the proper one in the next month or so.

I've taken the plunge..... I bought this today.
Has anybody got any advise about cheap accessories? (Luggage and protection mostly)
Normally the Eastern Europeans are good value.

I like that a lot . reading all the reviews and posts this bike could end up in my garage enjoy yours
