I looked long and hard at importing a new bike from Europe earlier this year and in the end the saving wasn't big enough to make me go for it.

The one problem a lot (including me) overlook is that if everyone bought their new bikes in Europe because of the favourable exchange rate a lot of local dealers would close and where do we get our servicing done then?

And as for Honda UK ripping you off.......

12 years ago Yamaha UK budgeted over £120,000 to be at the NEC.
That does need paying for.......as do all the other events, racing and promotions.

Come on guys, surely we don't want to lose all of this stuff do we?

Not read the whole thread as its way tooooo long for me. Im no god at riding bikes so cant comment on the specs, handling abilities offroad etc but by far prefer the look of the old A/t and hope this is successful in driving down the price of the likes of the RDo7's.

We seem now to be in a culture where many people begrudge paying the asking price for products and whinge like fuck about it to anyone who will listen. They seem to think people are getting g rich from the bike industry :laugh:

some bits on the pricey side but other are about the same as other manufacturers ie the panniers. but some stand out weird prices are the heated grips at £340 wtf?
also the peddle shifter seams extortionate for a lever.

I agree - I think this a way to keep the base price down (for marketing purposes, and genuinely for those people who don't want all the farkles), but that if you spec the bike up, then it's going to be a similar price to the equivalent 'flagship' models from other manufacturers?

As I recall, BMWs OEM heated grips are around £280 if they are not fitted as standard...

As for the gear shifter for the DCT bike - it's not just the foot lever - if you look at a photo of the Manual bike, there is also a linkage, plus the case/cover where the actuator enters the engine will be different between the DCT and the Manual model, so the kit will have to include one of those - plus the shaft itself that enters the engine, and there is quite likely to be some sort of spring mechanism inside there to provide pedal feel/return compared to plain the DCT version.

Or maybe they just want to discourage you from foot shifting and embrace the new technology ;o)
