To put this into perspective, just google the rust & corrosion problems that many GS/GSA riders have discovered.

If it's in month 13 of ownership, owners are struggling to claim anything from BMW who stipulate maximum 12 months warranty on the paintwork.

The pictures are shocking and would put you off spending £17K on a new GSA but folk still do it.

Jon
Complete and utter rubbish..... that is a total untruth

BMW Warranty is 2 years and paint/mechanical defects are covered up until then

Many owners (even on used bikes) are getting defects corrected in years 3&4 on a case by case basis

BMW warranty is very good

If you are going to make a statement, at least check your facts and get it right

I don't believe you, you cannot clearly substantiate that claim

Haha - which claim would you like me to substantiate?;

1. That there are many reports from BMW GS/GSA owners about the corrosion issue
OR
2. That there are plenty of happy GS/GSA owners out there ;)

I was referring to reports by owners on the forums (UKGSER for example) and pictures that have accompanied them. I can't be ars*d to post links here but you should be able to find loads with a simple search. It's quite well known among the GS crowd.

Jon

Edited...oh, go on then... http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread ... rust-issue

Given that some people have experienced no problems and others seem to have had a lot it seems that quality control and pdi are CCMs main issues. As a small manufacturer they will buy in most of the components and most of the issues seem to be with these. I assume the electrical connections are all located under the mudguard because they buy in the lights and they have short leads. If yours have not had issues yet and you ride off road or in the wet I would check them out. The last time my bike was being returned from the factory it was sharing space in the van with a new bike with the optional extra tail tidy fitted I noticed that this had a rubber flap, attached to cover the connections.
John Drogan's e mail commented that my bike 'showed signs of a lack of essential maintenance resulting in corrosion of the brake rotor, fixings and a build-up of debris under the battery which lands upon the area around the throttle bodies'. Given that my bike has only done around six thousand miles and is regularly cleaned once a week in the winter and sprayed with AFC 50 I think the corrosion is down to the quality of the materials and the issues of debris under the battery points to a flaw in the design if this is likely to cause problems with the throttle bodies. I assume the army stopped to clean theirs every day. To be fair my recollection of my time in the army was if things stood still for too long they were either polished or painted. Of more concern was John's reference to page 57 of the owners manual which basically says any warranty issues around corrosion will not be covered if CCM do not think you have cleaned your bike properly.
I don't understand how anyone finds it acceptable to need to use an air hawk or similar device acceptable on a new bike. The only bike in my garage which has a seat with such a soft seat as the CCM is my daughter's 1963 Tiger Cub which still has the original seat complete with disintegrating foam.
Cheers Jak

Drogan, he's only decent to you if he thinks he can sell you something, a total waste of space unless of course you bought two bikes, live within 50 miles of the factory and make all the right soundings of buying a replacement bike when yours has done less than 2000 miles. It was his immediate reply when I told him that the poor fueling and general running of the bike rendered it in-roadworthy, this was followed by the once in a lifetime offer of £1100 to fit a PC/ Quill Can and Power Plug :pinch:

You are quite right though Jak, their wiring is shoddy, there are enough documented tails of woe to clarify that claim, a pal of mine broke down in the first hour of riding his with a battery charging fault. Mine also decides when it will and when it wont start,( a dodgy starter solenoid) the horn is completely random and the pass light similar despite stripping the switches down and cleaning them. With under 2500 miles on the clock I would be confident in claiming that it is shite !!

So to summarise :

Was it any good ? No, not for me, :pinch: it's without doubt the worst bike I have owned in 38 years of motorcycling and I am stuck trying to get any decent money back on the thing. Anyone that's completely happy with theirs I suggest stay happy, (thumbs) because the re-sell on it is going to fall through the floor in the next 12 months, unless of course you give away more gazillons to CCM and buy the 600 when they get round to making it, best of luck with that, it will be another fucking Marmite disaster ! :pinch: :pinch:

Back to Blightey on the 13 year old Katoom 950 adv tomorrow, can't wait to throw the leg over it, a real delight to ride (thumbs) (thumbs)

The incorrect allegation that BMW would only correct paint defect claims on a new bike for an initial period of 12 months, in the 2 year warranty period

That is fabricated by you, a claim you are unable to substantiate, is factually incorrect and potentially libellous
That is clearly untrue and you know it

Hey, don't shoot the messenger!
If you want proof, you'll have to ask those who post on UKGSer forum.
I think they are good bikes, by the way :)

Can I say….BMW are , over rated and overpriced, and nowhere near the build quality they were pre 2005 ?

Back to the CCM…When I had a test ride on all the demo bikes at Haggsbank Bunkhouse I thought the engine was the worst I had ever ridden. Imo it felt like it would disintegrate at any minute. I also rode the bike which had won Pikes Peak. I would like to shake the hand of the rider who managed that because ( for me weight ) the front and rear suspension did not work together .

Would I have a BMW or CCM given ? Yes . I should think they would sell quick on my Ebay page ;-)
