Re: Honda Goldwing.....Would you?
My wife told me a few weeks ago she would get on the back of the bike if it had a comfortable rear seat. That led me to test ride the bmw 1600gt se last week. I wasn't bowled over with it tbh. I found it surprisingly easy to handle in the low speed corners but more of a handful at speed.
The wife likes the GTL Exclusive which starts at 21k and I couldn't justify paying that for a bike which I may use a few times a year.
The engine was smooth and it sounded great but wasn't that quick.
Maybe when I'm older...

Wayne, a friend was in same position and bought a fully kitted good condition K1100LT, ABS, heated grips, full luggage etc and immediately took off around France with wife on it and they love it. They did a lot of research centred on being comfortable for pillion while still good for the rider. Cost him over here about €1,200!! I agree you can't justify 21K for a few miles a year and they were in same position but wanting their trips away.
One of our guys had a K1600 after years with a K100. After about 18 months he changed the K1600 for a GS and recently added a K100.!!
But in mid 70s the GL1000 was quite an awesome machine.

Re: Honda Goldwing.....Would you?
The only bike my wife is comfortable on is my Harley Evo Ultra. She is comfortable and confident in the big wrap round seat and can get onto it with me on board, we are OAPs! She needs a back support and when we tried the Transalp with a topbox she could not get on the bike with me on board.
A pity as it means we can only do the lanes (surfaced) in the summer as the bike is too much of a lump 2-up for me to be confident over greasy, muddy or gravelwash surfaces. No problem in the dry though.
