why, well they are cheap in every way, but moreover I like taking it out on the little lost roads we have here in Cornwall, My 990ktm would do them all of course but its a big bike, it commands respect whereas on the 90 I get more immersed in the surroundings which are passing me by more slowly and in a different way.
I used to have an evening job delivering pizzas on one and the shop manager insisted we all went out practicing wheelies regularly
and there were even a couple of byways we could nip across to shorten our delivery routes (sorry if you ever received one of those bottles of coke 
)to know them is to love them, it's not just that they are simple, it's how clever such simplicity actually is, and proper engineers, bike mechanics and heli techs have all looked at mine for a while before concluding it's a proper bit of kit, which is true, the way everything can be sorted with the small selection of supplied tools in the side pouch is something a GS rider could only dream of.
Come the Zombie apocalypse these will be the transport of choice
They aren't perfect and I'd consider trading up to a FI innova for its conventional forks, disc brake, better economy and 4 speed transmission, but then again mine has been on some amazing journeys with me and it makes me smile every time I see it again
