Re the hex stove. I used them in the RAF Regiment in some serious weather. Half bury it if it's really windy.
Good tip is to get non stick mess tins. The hex stove will make everything black but a good scrub in leaves or on grass will get the worst off non stick pans. Also invest in mess tin covers as it will keep all your other kit clean.

I have used Hex blocks around the world. I cook on a small open fire where possible. At a campsite or eg the Hubb. I use Hex blocks but try to cook off the grass to avoid leaving a footprint of Burnt grass or find a large stone.

I also have the same Original Zippo from the 1980's, used 6 flints, 8 wicks and
2 bodies.............last for ever these things :dry: :laugh: :cheer: "Hows that broom Trigg"?
